This web site provides the public with easy and immediate access to information and documents included in the AR and PIR. These documents, which are publicly available, are accessible directly through this site. The document database is updated as additional documents are submitted to the AR. The Predefined Search "Recently Added Within 90 days" provides links to the documents most recently added to the AR.
The AR is the body of documents and information that is considered or relied upon to arrive at a final decision for remedial action or hazardous waste management. An AR is established for each operable unit (OU); treatment, storage, or disposal unit (TSD); or Expedited Response Action (ERA) group and will contain all documents having information considered in arriving at a Record of Decision or permit. Documents become part of the AR by a variety of means:
Information is key to ensuring meaningful public participation. In the early 1990’s the Community Relations Plan for the Federal Facility Agreement and Consent Order now known as the Hanford Public Involvement Plan identified the need to make available to the public documents and information on Hanford cleanup. The PIRs were established to address that information need. There are four PIR locations located outside of the Hanford Site and one onsite location. Today the PIRs give the public access to information on Tri-Party Agreement activities and provide access to documents for public review and comment. The PIRs also provide computers and assistance for the public to electronically access information in the Administrative Record. The Hanford Events Calendar provides a list of upcoming public involvement activities including documents out for public review.
